Flat Stanley
Students will
participate in a Flat Stanley project. We will read
aloud a story about a boy who becomes flattened when his
bulletin board falls on him while he is sleeping. Stanley has
many adventures while he is flat. One of his adventures
involves a trip he takes to visit his friend in California. His
family sends him on his vacation in an envelope through the
US mail! As a spin off of that idea, we will create our own
Stanley and send him to someone who lives in another place.
We might also send him with someone who is going on a
vacation. While “visiting” with the person or family, they are
to take pictures and write about his new adventures. They will
then return Stanley to our classroom where we will read about
his new adventures and learn about the area he visited. We will
plot all of his adventures on our classroom map. It will be fun and
interesting to see where Stanley goes!
Stanley has
gone to many places when he has left Room 18.
He has been to Italy, Greece, Florida, Hawaii, on a cruise, the
Philippines, and many other places. The children love this project
which teaches us about different cultures, cardinal directions,
landforms as well as letter writing skills.
